Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and Reliance Jio have started to prepare their networks for the cutting edge 5G innovation in gigantic numerous input different yield into their particular systems.Monstrous MIMO is a key empowering influence for 5G
Networks that are expected to be rolled out after 2020.India’s telecom regulator issued a consultation paper on Monday, seeking the views of carriers on the timing, pricing, and quantum of spectrum across nine bands to be offered at the next auction, in which 5G airwaves are likely to debut.
This band, which supports faster download speeds, has poor attenuation or ‘ability of radio signals to travel distances’ and towers have to be put close to each other to support voice and data services, making network rollouts more expensive. “It’s not known whether it would make business sense for telcos to spend top dollars in putting up innumerable towers very close to each other for 5G services,”
Vodafone India, Idea Cellular, and Reliance Jio Infocomm may skip bidding for 700 MHz band, which is ideal for 4G services.
“While 5G may still be a few years away, we are bringing some of the 5G technologies like massive MIMO into 4G and applying them. We are conducting trials of this technology. It is very futuristic in 5G, but we are using it in 4G,” Vishant Vora, director, technology, Vodafone India, told ET.
“The telecom industry’s high debt levels coupled with the deterioration in financials raises questions on its capability to participate in the next auction,” said Harsh Jagnani, sector head & vice president, corporate ratings, at ICRA. Telecom companies are struggling with huge levels of debt, pending spectrum payments and competition and are loathe to the sale of bandwidth – 4G or 5G – before 2019.
“The technology can significantly decrease networking costs. It will act as a gateway to 5G in India…there will be more commercial 5G related deployments in India,” he said.
